Aston Villa got their season off to a shaky start following a home draw against Hull City, but manager Steve Bruce will draw positives from the performances, and will look to crack on with a win at Cardiff City this weekend.

Bruce’s men backed up their opening day draw with a win at Colchester in the Carabao Cup, with a number of the Villains young stars being given a chance to shine at the cup clash in Essex.

One youngster that stood above the rest was 19-year-old Callum O’Hare, whose excellent performances through preseason convinced Bruce to afford the player the opportunity to shine in the first team fixture.

O’Hare played just off of striker Scott Hogan, and played a key role in the first goal as the former Brentford striker opened the scoring at the Colchester Community Stadium.

The young midfielder has a bright future in the game following his excellent performance, and many will hope to see the player at least make the squad for the trip to south Wales on Saturday.

Villa have recruited heavily in the last few seasons as they attempt to put together a side capable of mounting a promotion bid, but the emergence of an exciting young talent will peak the interest of fans the most.

As a football fan, there is nothing more exciting than seeing a young, local star, rise from the academy to become a first team regular, and that is exactly what O’Hare is threatening to do with his recent displays.

Bruce will be delighted with the efforts of the player, and will be pleased that he has been handed another option in attack without spending a penny.

It is set to be a long, tough season as the club bids for promotion to the top flight, and further opportunities will certainly come for this exciting young star in the coming months.

Villa fans, are you excited by O'Hare's potential?
