Aston Villa are lining up a move for experienced striker David McGoldrick, according to a report in the Mirror.

The 30-year-old, who was released from Ipswich Town last month following the end of his contract, has had quite the career in the Championship spanning the better part of a decade, and has scored goals for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Coventry City, and in the last five years, the Tractor Boys.

McGoldrick is expected to find a new club with ease this summer, and Villa manager Steve Bruce is taking a big look at the striker, with Bruce having to work on a shoestring budget this summer.

McGoldrick has in excess of 300 appearances to his name so far in his career, and another move to a Championship club is likely to be on the cards this year, with Villa leading the chase to land his signature.

McGoldrick made 22 appearances for Ipswich last season as they struggled to make an impact in the Championship, scoring only four goals for Mick McCarthy. He was released by new manager Paul Hurst last month, and a move to Villa could well be right up his street should an offer come his way.
