Aston Villa are interested in making Sheffield United's Chris Wilder the club's new manager, following their decision to sack Steve Bruce earlier in the week.

The former Hull boss was dismissed after a run of one win in ten games that left the side languishing in mid-table.

That means the club's new owners are set to make their first managerial appointment, and according to Football Insider they are very keen on Wilder.

The boyhood Blades fan has done a terrific job at Bramall Lane, guiding the side back to the second-tier and they finished just outside the play-offs last season.

They have started this campaign superbly too, with Wilder's men currently third after three successive wins.

Prior to that, the 51-year-old excelled at Northampton, and as well as bringing positive results, his sides are know for their attacking, high intensity football.

However, as you would expect, the report states that the Yorkshire club will be extremely reluctant to lose Wilder, who signed a new deal back in May.

He will be gearing his side up to face Hull City tomorrow, whilst Villa take on Millwall with Kevin MacDonald as caretaker manager.

The Verdict

It's no surprise to see Wilder getting linked with big clubs as he has done a magnificent job with the Blades since taking over and he is a quality manager.

Given the size and potential of Villa, considering how much their owners are worth, this will have some fans slightly worried as he would be an ideal appointment for them.

However, with Wilder being a lifelong fan and the fact his team are genuine promotion candidates, it would be a real shock if he decided to leave.
