Aston Villa could make a January swoop for Burnley forward Jonathan Walters, according to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday as relayed via The Express.

Aston Villa are desperate to find another striker and they have drawn up a list of transfer targets, which includes Jon Walters.

Walters only joined Burnley in the summer after leaving Stoke City following a seven year stint.

Prior to his time at Stoke, Walters also represented Bolton Wanderers, Hull City and Ipswich Town among others.

The 51-cap Republic of Ireland international is renowned for his hard work and physicality up front and he could be a vital addition to Aston Villa's attacking ranks.

The Villains currently have Gabby Agbonlahor, Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy out injured and this has made them reliant on youngster Keinan Davis up front.

Steve Bruce is therefore desperate to bring in a striker in January and Walters could be on his list.

The report in The Express also notes Villa's interest in Leicester City outcast Leonardo Ulloa.

The 31-year-old is the fifth choice striker at the King Power Stadium and he could fancy a move away from the club after managing just three substitute cameos in the Premier League so far this term.

The Verdict

For his attacking ability, Jon Walters would be a good addition for the Villains as his knowledge of playing at the top level would certainly benefit this side.

However, he is now 34-years-old and he is not getting any younger.

With the likes of John Terry, Glenn Whelan and Christopher Samba already at the club, Bruce will be cautious to not accumulate too many veterans at the club.
