Aston Villa confirm sacking of Roberto Di Matteo

Published

on

The Aston Villa merry-go-round continues, as the club have announced the sacking of manager Roberto Di Matteo after just 11 league games.

The former Chelsea and Schalke manager became manager in the summer, after a disastrous campaign saw Villa relegated to the Championship with the third lowest Premier League points tally of all time.

It was a horror show of a season which saw Villa sack first Tim Sherwood, and then his replacement Remi Garde, who joined the club from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.

After Di Matteo was announced as manager at the start of the season, fans were hopeful that things would turn around sooner rather than later, and that the Villans would make a speedy return to the top flight.

However, the Italian’s reign has been just as disappointing, and an embarrassing defeat to Preston on Saturday sealed his fate.

The new manager will inherit a broken squad, and a side that hasn’t won on the road for 422 days.
