Aston Villa have announced that Jacob Ramsey has agreed a long-term contract at Villa Park, with the 17-year-old committing his early years in football to the Villa Park club.

An announcement has come on Villa’s official website early this afternoon, confirming that news that Ramsey will be tied down for the foreseeable future after agreeing a long-term contract.

Ramsey is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, with the highly-rated teenager showcasing his qualities in front of goal for Villa’s under-18s this year.

In nine under-18 appearances, Ramsey has four goals, with the midfielder adding a further goal in the Premier League 2 for Villa.

Tipped for a big future in the game by Academy Manager, Sean Kimberly, Ramsey will now set his sights on progressing through the ranks at Villa Park in the coming years.

Dean Smith is currently the first-team coach at B6 and has involved a number of the club’s talented youngsters since arriving.

Jack Grealish, an academy product, has been a first-team regular for a number of years now, whilst Smith has also turned to the likes of Callum O’Hare and Dominic Revan to pad out his matchday squad over the Christmas period.

The Verdict

This is good to see from Villa, who will want to be the club to benefit from their youngster’s talents.

Ramsey might not be ready for the Championship, but he’s progressing nicely at Bodymoor Heath, so he is deserving of a long-term contract.

We’ve seen plenty of 17-year-olds progress rapidly after agreeing contracts like Ramsey has, so that’s got to be the aim for the player.
