Aston Villa have signed Tyreik Wright, despite interest from rivals Birmingham City, according to reports emerging from Ireland.

The Irish Examiner reports that Wright turned down a move to Birmingham in order to sign for Aston Villa.

The 16-year-old finally signs for the Villans and bolsters their youth options after a lengthy trial period.

Wright was first spotted by Aston Villa scouts two years ago at the age of 14 and has since been on more than one trial with the West Midlands outfit.

The Republic of Ireland under-17 international joins having represented Lakewood, Cork and Munster in his home country.

Wright is a winger renowned for his pace and he has impressed at youth level for club and country, winning the Victory Shield recently.

Birmingham made an advance for Wright but he opted to move to their fierce rivals Villa instead, due to their facilities, structure, backroom operation and academy.

The Verdict

Wright is a top young talent and he is perhaps very raw right now.

With the right coaching and the right application, he could show everyone what he is about.

But nevertheless, it is always nice for Aston Villa fans to celebrate someone picking them over Birmingham.
