Thierry Henry has verbally agreed to be the new manager of Aston Villa, according to a report in the Daily Star.

The French legend has been linked with a shock move to the Midlands over the weekend, but with the situation at Villa moving quickly, he has now apparently agreed in principle to take over from Steve Bruce,

Bruce is still in charge, for now, but it is reported that the new majority shareholders Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are unconvinced he is right man to take the Villans back to the Premier League.

Thierry Henry has recently been assistant to Roberto Martinez as Belgium finished third in the World Cup and also gave up his role as a pundit with Sky to concentrate on becoming a manager.

Nassef Sawiris is a member of one of Egypt's richest families and along with American tycoon Edens, he's ready to inject cash into the ailing Midlands side. They have each bought a 27.5 per cent stake in Villa, meaning that between them they have a controlling stake.

The Verdict

Not for me, this just isn't a move that makes sense for any party,

I can't see how Henry is the man to take Villa forward, he knows nothing of managing at that level and he player all his football in the top flight too.

It doesn't bode well for the fans if the new custodians feel this is the right move to make.
