Aston Villa closing in on first January deal with Premier League side

Rudy Gestede is set for a £6.5 million move to Premier League side Middlesbrough, according to The Guardian.

Despite starting just eight Championship matches for current club Aston Villa so far this season, he is thought to have attracted a lot of attention from clubs in both the top flight and also the Championship.

But it seems as though Aitor Karanka’s side have won the battle for the 28-year-old forward – reportedly beating the likes of Crystal Palace, West Brom and Newcastle United to the Benin international.

Gestede was present at the Riverside a couple of weeks ago and he is now expected to sign a three-year contract with the club.

The former Blackburn man is no stranger to the Premier League after scoring five times for Villa last season and he could add to the firepower up top in the North East.

Amid the rumours of Jordan Rhodes exiting the club, it is understood that he could be going in the other direction with the current Boro striker being frustrated at his lack of game time.

Villa fans… Would you be upset to see Gestede leave your club? Would your club’s chances of a play-off place weaken with his departure? Let us know how you feel about the deal down below!
