Aston Villa closing in on deal for prolific Championship striker

According to BBC journalist Pat Murphy, Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia.

Pat Murphy claims that Kodjia is close to joining the Villains in a deal worth £15m, but Derby and Hull are also interested in the 26-year-old so the deal is not complete yet.

The Ivory Coast international scored 20 goals in 48 matches in all competitions for Bristol City last year as he enjoyed a profitable first season in England.

Kodjia moved to Ashton Gate last summer after finishing as the top scorer in Ligue 2 for Angers.

Murphy has also reported that Aston Villa’s deal for Abel Hernandez is dead. Hull had agreed a deal with the Championship outfit for their star striker but the move broke down over personal terms.

Furthermore Murphy believes that Jonathan Kodjia will not be Aston Villa’s only striker target before the window closes even if they do land the Bristol City attacker.

West Ham’s Ecuadorian international striker Enner Valencia is no longer on their wishlist, however, as they look to pursue other options up front.

Aston Villa fans – what do you think? Would Kodjia be a good signing? Is he worth £15m? Are you disappointed to miss out on Hernandez and Valencia? Who else could you target?
