Aston Villa closing in on deal for Championship defender

Aston Villa are closing in on another January signing, with highly rated Barnsley defender, James Bree, looking set to sign, according to HITC.

Villa have beaten off competition from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs in Manchester City and Arsenal, as well as midlands rivals, West Brom.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects around, so it comes as no surprise that big clubs were interested in Bree.

The signing of Bree is a huge coup for Villa and it is a real show of intent as they continue to push for a Play-Off place.

With Ritchie De Laet nursing an injury, Bruce is left with just Alan Hutton at right back and it doesn’t seem as though the former Hull boss is a huge fan of the Scot.

Steve Bruce is keen to put his own stamp on his squad with most of the players he inherited, those of the previous managerial regime.

Following Bree to Aston Villa looks to be Henri Lansbury, who looks set to complete a £3 million move in the coming days.

Villa fans… Will you be glad to see Bree sign for you? Will he go straight into your team? Barnsley fans… Will you be sad to see Bree leave? Who would you like to see him replaced with? Let us know your thoughts below!
