Aston Villa chief hands Steve Bruce huge boost ahead of 2018/19

Dr Tony Xia has backed Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce in an open letter addressed to the club’s supporters.

After failure to win promotion to the Premier League last season, it has been an uncertain start to the summer for Aston Villa, who are facing a difficult financial situation.

Bruce has been at Villa Park since October 2016, solidifying Villa in his first season in charge, before mounting a promotion push last season and leading the club to fourth.

Despite that, speculation has surrounded the future of Bruce at Villa Park, but in an open letter, addressed to the club’s supporters, Xia has moved to back his manager ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Xia discusses Villa strategy moving forward, highlighting Bruce as a key part of that:

“I have had numerous conversations with Steve Bruce in recent weeks, which only reinforced how fortunate we are to have someone of his experience and standing in the game. His leadership will be important for us on the field, as a club and as a community and I thank him for his loyalty.”

With Villa facing up to a third consecutive year in the Championship, they are in a difficult financial situation, with Xia admitting that the club are looking to avoid Financial Fair Play punishments after two years of investment.

Xia states in his open letter that the club isn’t for sale, despite the situation, but reveals that Villa are open to minority investment, as he looks to guide his club out of a difficult financial position.

The Verdict

It’s certainly a time of uncertainty for Villa and their supporters, but this update from Xia is key.

As well as focusing on the financial situation, backing Bruce is huge, as Villa can’t afford to lose a man of such experience this summer.

Bruce has done a terrific job during his time with the club, and although this season will be tough, his experience could be vital in helping Villa out of the other side.

Xia is making a positive decision by making his manager.
