Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is stunned to see the Boxing Day clash with Burton Albion approach a sell-out, which he believes shows the size of the club that his Midlands outfit are.

Bruce, who has turned things around at Villa Park since his appointment, saw Villa's resurgence continue at the weekend with a 1-0 victory on the road against QPR, which put Villa just a point behind the top-half of the table and six points behind sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday.

Hosting the smallest side in the Championship on Boxing Day, with the Staffordshire outfit sitting just two points above the relegation zone, Villa will be confident of continuing their fine run of form to set-up a charge for a play-off spot in the second-half of the season.

Quoted by The Express & StarBruce was in awe of the club's support as he prepares for Villa's penultimate game of 2016.

“I’d like to thank the fans who came down to QPR to support us. I thought they were wonderful. I have been told we’re edging towards a full house on Boxing Day against Burton. That tells you everything you need to know about our club. It could be 42,500 and against Burton – no disrespect to them – that’s a quite remarkable turnout.”

Villa have endured a bit of a blip in December, experiencing defeats against Norwich City and Leeds United in their last four matches, but prior to their loss against the Peacocks Bruce's side had not lost since the start of October.

Bruce will be looking for three points against Burton Albion next week before looking for a more positive result in the return clash against Leeds United to finish the calendar year, which could potentially put them within touching distance of the top-six.
