Aston Villa boss makes bold statement which Newcastle fans will probably disagree with

According to a report by The Express and Star, Steve Bruce has claimed that Aston Villa are the “big scalp” in the Sky Bet Championship.

Both Aston Villa and Newcastle United suffered a disappointing relegation from the Premier League last season considering both of the club’s size and stature.

And whilst Newcastle have taken big strides in securing a return to the top flight, Aston Villa have struggled to have the same impact as they currently languish in mid-table despite spending big money in the summer and again in January.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has put that down to the Villains being the “big scalp” in the league, claiming that “everyone wants to turn us over”.

Bruce went on to describe Villa Park as the “big stage” and “big arena” where teams come looking for a positive result.

The former Hull boss said:

“It’s never going to be easy because of who we are.

“We are the big scalp in this division.

“Everyone wants to turn us over.

“All the teams that come to Villa Park want to perform on the big stage and in the big arena.

“So all the bits and pieces make it difficult.”

The Villa boss added that he is confident that Aston Villa will mount a promotion charge next season.

Aston Villa fans – what do you make of Bruce’s comments? Do you agree with him?
