Aston Villa have managed to turn their poor start to the season around in recent weeks and are looking for a third consecutive win when they face Burton Albion tonight.

Speculation had already begun about Steve Bruce's job but key victories at Oakwell and then at home to Nottingham Forest have eased the pressure somewhat.

Villa are now within touching distance of the play-offs and have made themselves a lot harder to beat in recent weeks.

However, there's no chance of Bruce getting complacent as he is very aware of how quickly things can turn.

“I'm under no illusions, if we lose the next two then they (the critics) will circle again. That's the manner of things but I've been round the block a few times and I'm determined to get it right,” he told the Express & Star.

The ex-Hull boss was also full of praise for tonight's opponents Burton Albion, revealing that voted for Nigel Clough as the Championship's manager of the year last season.

“They have had some unbelievable results and it is always a difficult place, typical Championship. We have no divine right, we have to earn the right, and will have to earn the right on Tuesday.”

The Verdict

Villa are starting to climb up the table thanks to some good results, although they didn't convince in the second half against Forest last time out.

Steve Bruce knows the division well and understands the test that Burton Albion pose at home, so there's no danger of Villa taking them lightly.

With Bolton at home following tonight's game it is the perfect opportunity for Villa to serioulsy build momentum ahead of the October break.
