Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce believes Huddersfield Town still have a great chance of automatic promotion, reports the Yorkshire Post.

Bruce’s Villa side face Huddersfield tonight at the John Smith’s Stadium, where two teams with contrasting fortunes meet.

Huddersfield are flying in the Sky Bet Championship, currently sitting third and just six-points outside the top-two. Villa, on the other hand, have disappointed this season and look set for a mid-table finish.

Ahead of tonight’s clash, Bruce, who managed Town during the 1999-2000 campaign, was full of praise for David Wagner’s side, he told the Yorkshire Post: “Huddersfield are a very, very good side. They also have an up and coming manager who has bought really well.

“He has made a big impact since coming to England and built a very good team.

“They play a certain way and it is getting results. We will have our work cut out to get something, that’s for sure.

“I have nothing but respect for what David and Huddersfield are doing this season. As far as I am concerned, they have a chance to make automatic promotion, never mind the play-offs.”

Despite their differing league positions, Villa are the form team heading into this fixture, having won three consecutive games, lifting Bruce’s side to 13th in the Championship table.

Wagner’s side are without a win since last month’s victory over Reading, and suffered defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday, denting their automatic promotion hopes.
