Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has recently spoken out about his decision to let right-back Ritchie De Laet depart Villa Park on loan.
The Belgian right-back has recently sealed a loan switch to Australian outfit Melbourne City, after making just two appearances for Villa this season, both of which came in the League Cup.
Bruce, speaking in his Blackburn Rovers pre-match press conference, admitted that it was only right to let De Laet move on, after what had been a frustrating time for the former Leicester City full-back:
???????? Press Conference: Steve Bruce on @De_Laet_R – “It’s been a frustrating time for him. He suffered a serious injury. I think with the people I have at right-back, it was only right to let him get on with his career”

Villa have made a dismal start to the Championship campaign, and will be looking to find their third win of the campaign against Blackburn on Saturday afternoon.
Bruce’s side have nine points to their name at this early stage of the season, but haven’t won since they beat Wigan Athletic in the second round of fixtures. Last time out Bruce’s side were humiliated by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
This could be a decision Villa live to regret – you only have to look at the reaction by Villa fans to know that this isn’t a popular decision.
De Laet had a promising pre-season, and will undoubtedly feel hard done to after he was shipped out on loan.
However, Bruce reveals why the decision was made, and now, Villa’s supporters have to start backing the club and their reasoning.
