Aston Villa are one of three English clubs chasing Strasbourg striker Stephane Bahoken this summer, according to reports emerging from France.

French media outlet France Football is reporting that Swansea City lead the race for Bahoken with Aston Villa, Stoke City and Italian Serie A side Udinese also interested.

Bahoken currently plies his trade in Ligue 1 for Strasbourg, where he has netted eight times in 27 games for the struggling side to help them battle against relegation.

The 25-year-old will be available on a free agent when his contract expires at the end of this season and Aston Villa are interested in snapping up the striker ahead of Swansea, Stoke and Udinese.

The Villains previously tried to sign Bahoken on loan in the January transfer window but failed in their bid to do so before signing Lewis Grabban instead.

Bahoken was born in France and he came through the ranks at Nice, as well as playing for France's under-20 side.

The Cameroon international, who made his senior debut earlier this year, had a loan spell at St Mirren in the 2013/14 season - scoring no goals in five games - before moving to Strasbourg in 2014.

After helping Strasbourg to back to back promotions and then staying with the side in Ligue 1, Bahoken now looks set to quit with his sights set on a Premier League move.

The Verdict

France Football believe he favours a move to the Premier League over Italy and this also means that Stoke could be out of the race if they get relegated - as is looking increasingly likely - and Aston Villa might fail to land their man if they do not win promotion via the play-offs. Aston Villa need to ask themselves whether they need Bahoken? With players like Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan and Keinan Davis up top, would Bahoken add anything to their squad or should they go all out for a top striker to improve on their current options?
