It's becoming increasingly clear that Aston Villa need a new striker in January with them looking very short of quality up top all of a sudden.

Jonathan Kodjia is missing through injury whilst Scott Hogan has also had issues and is not confident at all. The likes of Gabby Agbonlahor, meanwhile, doesn't look close to getting into the side.

Only Keinan Davis can be relied on at the moment, then, and he has not been prolific for all the good work he has done.

The likes of the Express, then, is suggesting that Villa should go after James Wilson but, in all seriousness, isn't that about as uninspiring as it gets?

With all due to respect to Wilson who is a decent Championship player, he's not the prolific forward Villa need to fire them to promotion glory.

He's never scored many goals on his loan spells in the second tier and he's never really settled wherever he has been with him always going back to Man Utd.

Of course, he can't help that but he should have pushed for a move away by now permanently and Villa need players that are looking to the future potentially with them.

A loan deal is more likely for Villa in January given FFP but they should be looking at bringing in a striker that will score goals and has the view to move to Villa Park permanently in the summer.

It's going to be a big factor in Villa's finishing position this season and we're not sure Wilson's arrival would be the solution to the striker issue.
