Aston Villa and Newcastle scouts present at Champions League fixture

Portuguese football journalist Tom Kundert has exclusively revealed via Twitter that scouts from Aston Villa and Newcastle were among those watching Benfica’s Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev.

Tom Kundert posted a picture with a list of clubs that had sent scouts to the game and there were a handful of British clubs in there.

Premier League clubs Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Sunderland, Manchester United, Chelsea and West Brom were all named on the list alongside SPL side Celtic and Championship duo Newcastle and Aston Villa.

While Steve Bruce is likely to dip into the market to strengthen the Aston Villa squad which he inherited, it is less likely that Benitez will be involved in too much activity during the upcoming January window.

HITC Sport speculated in their report that Victor Lindelof, Alex Grimaldo, Salvio and Kostas Mitroglou might be on these clubs’ radars but admitted that Newcastle and Aston Villa are likely to be outpriced by Benfica’s demands.

Benfica ran out 1-0 winners to boost their hopes of progressing.

Newcastle and Aston Villa fans – who do you think was being scouted? Are you interested by any of the mentioned players?
