Aston Villa and Leeds United both propelled themselves into the promotion picture this weekend with impressive wins at rival teams in and around the top six.

Villa smashed three past a hapless Middlesbrough side, while Leeds took three points from Sheffield United thanks to a late Pablo Hernandez goal.

However, both clubs are lookig to add a new goalkeeper to the ranks, and according to a report in the Birmingham Mail via the Sun, Leeds and Villa face an anxious wait to see what the future holds for goalkeeping target Tom Heaton of Burnley.

The England international is wanted by both clubs as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks in the January transfer window, with Heaton a top target due to him not getting any game time at Turf Moor.

A decision on the future of Heaton is expected to be made by Burnley, but it hinges on the fitness of Nick Pope, who is close to a return to the fold after injury robbed him of his number one spot to summer signing Joe Hart.

Leeds are desperate for a new stopper after seeing Jamal Blackman break his leg and return to Chelsea, while Villa manager Dean Smith wants a new stopper after seeing some shaky displays from current number one Orjan Nylund.

The Verdict

Heaton is going to be a great signing for either of these clubs if it comes off, but this news will cause a bit of concern for Leeds and Villa.

Nylund has looked rocky to say the least, while Bailey Peacock-Farrell is still prone to error.

The Burnley man could play a vital role for either club, and Bielsa and Dean Smith will be hoping to snap him up come January.
