Sky Bet Championship trio Aston Villa, Derby County and Fulham are all set to do battle to sign Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing during the current transfer window, after his current club announced that he was available for a loan move away from the Riverside Stadium.

According to HITC Sport, Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson is not interested in offloading the former England international permanently, although a loan move is set to be on the cards this month.

All three of the interested parties harbour realistic hopes of reaching the Championship play-offs this season and it is likely to be the player who ultimately decides which club to join for the remainder of the season.

The left-winger has been restricted to just one start in the Premier League during the last two months and at 32-years-old he is keen to play regular first-team football.

A move to Villa Park is perhaps the most intriguing concept for Downing, after enjoying a successful two season spell with the club between 2009 and 2011, playing 63 times and scoring nine goals before joining Liverpool.

Aston Villa, Derby and Fulham fans, would you welcome Downing to your club this month? Does he have the quality to lead you to promotion this season? Let us know in the comments below!
