According to reports from the Hull Daily Mail, Hull City striker Abel Hernandez had interest in the summer transfer window from fellow Championship clubs Aston Villa and Birmingham City.

These claims have come from the player's agent Pablo Bentancur.

Hernandez looked certain to leave the KCOM stadium this summer but after an Achilles injury, which could keep him out of action for up to six months, those certainties died down.

Prior to his injury, the Uruguayan’s stock rose significantly following a hat-trick against Burton Albion in the club’s 4-1 win against Nigel Clough’s side.

Aston Villa’s boss Steve Bruce was the man to bring Hernandez to Hull City from Palermo back in 2014 as the now 27-year-old struggled for form in his debut season during Hull’s relegation season of 2014/15.

Hernandez found his form a season later when Hull regained their spot in England’s top flight as he scored 20 goals in 39 league games.

The striker struggled again last season in the Premier League, scoring just four times in 24 league games as Hull suffered relegation yet again.

The Verdict

Hindsight is 20/20 and at the time of the injury, Hull were right to have not yet sold Hernandez.

Despite him being a favourite to depart the club, the Uruguayan striker is a quality forward at Championship level which is why Aston Villa and Birmingham were so interested in the player.

However, if Hull are still content on selling the player then there is a chance that Hernandez could be fit by January if he comes back a little sooner than planned so Villa and Birmingham could go back in for him then.
