According to the Mirror, Aston Villa are among three Sky Bet Championship clubs interested in signing Dean Henderson from Manchester United.

Steve Bruce, along with Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers, are monitoring the goalkeeper’s situation, with his future at Old Trafford in limbo.

Henderson’s contract at Man United is up in the summer, and the 20-year-old is considering his options at this current time.

The goalkeeper has never made a senior appearance for United, but has spent time away from Old Trafford on-loan.

Henderson is currently with Shrewsbury Town in Sky Bet League One, where he has kept five clean sheets in 10 appearances, helping his temporary employers to the top of the table after 12 fixtures.

Villa, Forest and Wolves are not the only clubs looking at Henderson, with Premier League sides also paying close attention to the 20-year-old.

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are among seven top-flight clubs linked, whilst there is also reported interest from abroad, with Benfica, Olympiakos and Udinese also mentioned.

Villa already have one Manchester United goalkeeper on their books, with Sam Johnstone currently on-loan at Villa Park in the Championship.

Recent reports have suggested that Villa will look to strike a deal with Man United over the January transfer window for the impressive 24-year-old.

The Verdict

Henderson’s form for Shrewsbury in League One is certainly earning him plenty of admirers, with a host of clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.

The link to Villa is surprising, particularly with Bruce’s admiration for Johnstone, who is expected to join the Championship club permanently at some point in the future.

The likelihood is that Villa will still look to sign Johnstone, but could turn to Henderson if any deal falls through.
