Aston Villa have confirmed that Jake Doyle-Hayes has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract at Villa Park.

Doyle-Hayes, who is Villa’s former academy captain, has agreed a new three-year deal at Villa Park.

The 18-year-old midfielder is a regular for the club’s under-23 side, and is looking to break into the first-team under Steve Bruce.

Bruce handed Doyle-Hayes his first-team debut earlier in the 2017/18 campaign, with the midfielder starting the Carabao Cup tie with Wigan Athletic last month, completing almost 80 minutes of the 4-1 victory.

Doyle-Hayes will be hoping for more first-team opportunities, and a chance to follow the likes of Andre Green and Keinan Davis into Bruce’s plans.

Green was handed a regular opportunity to impress by Bruce last season, and the 19-year-old has continued his splendid form at the start of the 2017/18 campaign, making five appearances and scoring one goal.

Davis made his Villa debut last season under Bruce, but the 19-year-old has been handed a major opportunity this year, with the opportunity to lead the line in the absence of Jonathan Kodjia.

The powerful striker has made two Championship appearances, as well as one in the Carabao Cup.

The Verdict

Villa’s supporters will be pleased to see another youngster commit his future to the club, and the player himself will be confident of more first-team opportunities under Bruce.

Bruce has not been afraid to play the likes of Green and Davis when others have let him down, and Doyle-Hayes can expect a fair opportunity despite Villa’s experienced squad.

The 2017/18 campaign may not be the year Doyle-Hayes breaks into the first-team on a regular basis, but by signing a long-term contract, he is giving himself an opportunity in coming years.
