Axel Tuanzebe had been one of Aston Villa's best players this season before he picked up a foot injury that has kept him out of action for three months.

But the Manchester United loanee is edging closer to a return to action, and is in line to make his long-awaited return to the first-team when the Villans are next in action.

Dean Smith's side will be one of the most feared sides that are battling to win promotion this season, and with Tuanzebe back in their side, they have strength in depth in all areas.

In an interview with the club's official website, Tuanzebe revealed that he is edging closer to a return to action and is targeting the Blackburn Rovers match as a realistic return date: "I'm at a stage where I'm building my fitness in order to be ready for the Blackburn game.

"When you're out with a bone injury there's not a lot you can do but rest. It's been a long process of healing.

The central defender also admitted that he is pleased with the progress he is made and is hoping to play his part in Villa's late promotion push this season.

"The Blackburn game gives me the chance to build up the lungs and the legs and get ready for the run of games that the Championship requires.

"It's great to be back around the lads and I'm ready to go again for a big finish to the season."

The Verdict

This has come at the best time possible.

It gives Dean Smith a welcome selection dilemma and he'll be hoping that Tuanzebe can pick up where he left off.

He had been in excellent form before picking up an injury and will be keen to make up for lost time as Villa mount their challenge for promotion.
