Ahmed Elmohamady has highlighted Aston Villa and Steve Bruce’s experience as important ahead of the Sky Bet Championship’s play-offs.

Villa have been heading for play-off football for some time now, and with just one fixture of the regular season remaining, attention within Bruce’s playing squad is starting to turn to their fight for promotion.

Elmohamady, along with Robert Snodgrass, was part of Bruce’s Hull City side who achieved promotion in 2016, with both current Villa players part of the starting XI in the play-off final that saw the Tigers beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.

The Egyptian right-back also highlighted the experience that John Terry brings in the heart of defence, with the ex-England and Chelsea skipper set to captain Villa through their play-off campaign.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about the upcoming play-offs, the 30-year-old said: “We have a few players who have had this experience in the play-offs before.

“JT gives us experience, the gaffer as well has been in the play-offs so many times.

“We have players who have been in other teams and know that, when you come here to Villa Park, it's always tough to play.”

The play-offs begin in May following the final day of the season on Sunday.

Villa face Millwall on the final day of the season at The Den, with Neil Harris’ side still having an outside chance of joining Villa in the play-offs.

Cardiff City or Fulham, who are still in contention for the top-two, and Middlesbrough have already secured play-off football alongside Villa.

Millwall, Derby County and Preston North End are the three clubs battling to clinch sixth, with the Rams in a strong position to do so following the weekend’s results.

The Verdict

The experience Villa have has been key all season and ahead of the play-offs, it is hard to see that changing.

Having won promotion this way before, Elmohamady and Snodgrass will be influential in the changing rooms, whilst Bruce’s knowhow in the dugout will serve Villa well.

However, Cardiff or Fulham and Middlesbrough are going to be a huge challenge for Villa to overcome, with this season’s play-offs sure to be highly competitive.
