Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has posted an injury update on social media, showing that he has returned to training.

The 28-year-old suffered a ruptured Achilles injury in training on December 30 and is ruled out for the reason of the season.

The Norwegian shot-stopper has made 23 Championship appearances for Villa since joining in the summer, keeping six clean sheets.

The goalkeeper had been in questionable form for Villa, conceding 34 goals in his 23 league appearances but did save a 90th-minute penalty from Wilfried Bony in the 1-0 win over Swansea City just days before his injury.

Nyland has been working towards his recovery for the past four months and posted this video on his

Villa are fifth in the Championship table, after an incredible run of eight straight victories has seen them cement their position in the play-off places.

Dean Smith's side have the chance to extend their winning run to nine matches, when they face Bolton Wanderers later today.

The Verdict

This is brilliant news for the goalkeeper. It has been a difficult few months for the player and it is nice to see him back on the training pitch doing what he loves.

His future as the first-choice goalkeeper at Villa remains uncertain though, after some questionable performances from him between the sticks this season.
