Leeds United and Middlesbrough meet on Saturday afternoon in a top-of-the-table clash with both sides needing the three points for their own reasons.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side could move back to the top of the table with a win over their fellow promotion candidates.

Boro, meanwhile, can consolidate their place in the top-six with a win over an out-of-sought United side.

Tony Pulis’ men have the best defence in the division and are coming up against a team who are one of the top scorers in the division.

The main battle will be in the final third of the pitch for either side with Kemar Roofe and Britt Assombalonga, the players for each side expected to put the ball in the back of the net to get the three points.

Ahead of the clash between the two sides, we take a look and the strikers and compare their stats before kick-off.

Between the two strikers, the Middlesbrough man has more appearances, albeit only 15 starts and ten substitute appearances, compared to Roofe’s 24 starts this campaign.

Despite having more appearances, Roofe has played more football – by 572 minutes.

And more time on the pitch has equated to more goals for the Leeds United striker.

Roofe has 14 goals to Assombalonga’s nine, he also has two assists, compared to the 26-year-old Boro man.

In fact, Leeds’ main man outshines his counterpart in all departments.

Assombalonga’s mediocre season has seen him muster 1.7 shots per game, with the 26-year-old Leeds man averaging a much healthier 3.1 shots per game.

In a more closely contested pass success rate comparison, Roofe once again beats his opposite number, completing 77.9 per cent of his passes, with Assombalonga’s 74.4 per cent.

Between the two, there is 0.1 between them in aerial battles won – 1.1 for Roofe and 1 for Assombalonga, on average.

The stats don’t like and only corroborate the two season’s the pair have had for their respective teams.

Roofe usurps his counterpart in all aspects that count towards aiding their team to move further up the table.

All things point to the Leeds man being the heavier hitter in tomorrow’s clash and should be the more effective striker in what looks set to be quite an interesting and intriguing clash between the promotion contenders.
