After their 1-0 victory over Leeds United at the weekend, Swansea City are top of the Championship table with five wins from their opening six league matches.

It's been a fantastic start to the season from Steve Cooper's side and it's fair to say that not many people would have predicted that they'd be top of the table heading into the international break.

There's still an awful long way to go and it's important not to get carried away, but after the result at Elland Road at the weekend, I think Swansea can be considered genuine promotion contenders this season.

I'm not suggesting that they're going to win the league, or even finish in the top two, but if they can continue to play as they have been, there's no reason why they can't challenge for promotion.

I've been really impressed by what I've seen from Swansea under Cooper so far this season. The football they've played has been brilliant to watch and they've scored plenty of goals too.

Cooper has no previous experience as a manager at this level, so he deserves enormous credit for what he's been able to achieve at Swansea so far and for the way he's been able to get the best out of the players.

Swansea's start to the season is even more impressive when you consider that they've lost their manager Graham Potter and two of their standout players from last season in Oli McBurnie and Daniel James.

McBurnie scored 22 goals for Swansea in the Championship last season and it was always going to be difficult for the club to replace him, but Borja Baston has been like a new signing.

The Spanish centre-forward has returned from his latest loan spell with a new-found energy and confidence, scoring five goals in six league appearances.

Another player who has also been re-energised under Cooper is Andre Ayew. His performances so far this term have been very impressive.

Cooper deserves tremendous credit for the way he's been able to get the best out of the duo and seemingly persuade them to remain at the club, after it looked as though they were both set to depart during the summer transfer window.

Perhaps the expectation levels are a little bit different at Swansea too, when compared to the likes of Leeds and the other top clubs in the Championship.

Maybe the players can use that to their advantage and go under the radar a little bit.

There's still a long way to go yet, but if they can continue their momentum, then Swansea have every chance of challenging for promotion from the Championship this season.
