Aston Villa have showed exactly how to utilise the loan transfer market to their advantage this season. Three loans in particular have transformed the side from 15th in the Championship, to a play-off final team.

Axel Tuanzebe, Tyrone Mings and Tammy Abraham have all been immense for The Villans in their own right this season. The latter’s goals leapfrogged Villa up the Championship table amidst a 10-game record-breaking run of consecutive league wins.

Abraham will obviously take an incredible amount of credit should Villa prevail at Wembley and re-gain their Premier League status, but the special mention must go to the centre-back partnership.

Mings and Tuanzebe of Bournemouth and Manchester United respectively transformed this Villa side. At the beginning of the season Villa were conceding four goals to Sheffield United, three goals to Preston North End and five to Nottingham Forest.

At this time, Tuanzebe was playing right-back and Mings had not yet joined the club. Since their arrival, the two have been part of one of the best defensive records in the division since January.

So, of the three, who should Villa invest most of their time, money and effort on?

Well, the answer to this question may very well have been answered for them.

With Manchester United’s defensive from at the moment combined with quite a few players running down their contracts, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Tuanzebe may be a part of his future plans as manager of the club.

Abraham is one of the many, many Chelsea youngsters out on loan and may finally be given his chance with the Blues after suffering a transfer ban until the Summer of 2020. This means that Gonzalo Higuian is out of the picture leaving a vacant spot in the Chelsea strikers. Chelsea can’t really afford to let Abraham go in their current situation.

This leaves Mings. The colossus centre-back has established himself as a fan favourite since his arrival at Villa Park. This is why Aston Villa should make him their number one target to sign permanently next season.

They have Jonathan Kodja who – granted isn’t as prolific as Abraham – but is a good striker, nonetheless. Villa were playing Mile Jedinak at centre-back before Mings!

There is simply no other replacement for Mings. He has made, despite Abraham’s goals, the biggest impact on this Villa side and should be the first name on their wish lift for the summer.

To Villa his services would be priceless, to Bournemouth his services might cost Dean Smith’s side a bit more than that.
