Derby County and Rangers will have to pay £1m for St. Johnstone's Zander Clark if they want to do a summer deal for the goalkeeper.

That's according to Football Insider who say that the Scottish Premiership side will demand a seven-figure fee for the 26-year-old who has impressed this season.

The two clubs were linked with a move for the stopper earlier this week as they see Clark as the ideal player to bring added competition for their goalkeeping department.

Frank Lampard in particular could be on the lookout for a new number one with Kelle Roos approaching the final few months of his deal and Scott Carson linked with a move away.

Both sides will take encouragement from the fact that the former Queen of the South man is out of contract next season, so a summer move seems inevitable and that may cause The Saints to drop the asking price as the window progresses.

Clark has played 32 times for Tommy Wright's side this season and whilst the side were disappointed not to get a top six finish, the keeper has been one of the standout performers.

The Verdict

This seems like an acceptable fee for Clark as he is a good keeper and given his age he will have his best years in front of him.

However, I'd expect Rangers and Derby to be able to get him for cheaper than that when you consider his contract situation, as the Perth outfit will not want to lose him on a free in 12 months time.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and you would imagine Clark is coming to the end of his St. Johnstone career.
