Cardiff City’s form this season has come as a huge surprise, with Neil Warnock’s side staging an unlikely assault on the automatic promotion places in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Bluebirds currently sit third in the Championship table, trailing the automatic promotion places by just goal difference heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures.

One of Cardiff’s key performers this season has been Sol Bamba, who over the course of his time with the Bluebirds has been a colossus for Warnock and his side.

The 32-year-old has featured on 24 occasions this season, scoring three goals and putting in some commanding defensive displays for the Welsh outfit.

Warnock has today stated that Bamba is a better defender than Virgil Van Dijk - as reported by Keith Downie of Sky Sports - the defender who has just made the switch from Southampton to Liverpool for a reported £75m.
