Stoke City manager Michael O'Neill has a decision to make regarding his young striker Tyrese Campbell, with both Celtic and Rangers going head to head in a battle for his signature, according to reports in The Scottish Sun.

The 20-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and so is free to talk to other clubs now about a free transfer at the end of the season or it is also possible Campbell would go on loan for the remainder of this season.

So which of the Old Firm sides be the better fit for a player who has scored four goals in 17 league appearances for Stoke so far this season?

We discuss.........

Kris Smith

“It would certainly be a solid signing for either club given that he is out of contract in the summer and hitting great form at the moment for the Potters.

“At Rangers, Steven Gerrard has recruited very well from the English leagues with players such as Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Connor Goldson among others, so this could be another shrewd signing from him.

“At Celtic, there is growing interest in Odsonne Eduoard, who might be tempted onto a move away this month so they could be forced into moving for a more proven striker than Campbell who is surely an investment for the future.

“Campbell’s recent form shows great promise and he’ll certainly develop a lot more regardless of the club he is at, but I think a move to Gerrard’s Rangers would be more beneficial given their recruitment model and how Gerrard is giving these sorts of players more of a chance.”

“Not often do the Old Firm battle for a player, but that’s exactly what’s happening here - Stoke’s 19-year-old forward Tyrese Campbell has been a prominent figure for the relegation battlers this season, enjoying his best spell in the first-team and breaking into the England U20 side as well.

“Rangers have had a couple of outgoings this month and look to have one or two more lined-up in the attacking department. Steven Gerrard could well be in the market for a striker this month, and Campbell could be a great pick - they’ve got some similar players to Campbell in Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent, and the Stoke man would fit the mould of Gerrard’s side.

“Celtic meanwhile have just come off the back of a home loss to Rangers, but remain top of the SPL. They play a slightly different style to Rangers, with Neil Lennon favouring a lone-striker - Odsonne Edouard has been that man this season, and he’s a very similar forward to Campbell.

“I can see Campbell being a good fit for either side. I think he’d benefit both sides equally as much, so it boils down to which manager could get the most out of him in the long-term. That surely has to be Gerrard at Rangers - a young manager with the reputation that he has would surely better Campbell’s overall game in the long run.”

"It is clear to see why Campbell has had his head turned, given the fact he is attracting interest from two major clubs, but I think a switch to Rangers would be the best move if given the choice between the two.

"It would be a great place for Campbell to develop under the guidance of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, with the ibrox outfit having shown clear signs of progress this season as they look to challenge Celtic for the title.

"Campbell may not be an immediate starter with the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe as attacking options, but the 20-year-old could learn a lot from these players while also picking up some minutes.

"Campbell could be an excellent long-term replacement for Morelos if he seals a move away from the club - while Defoe will also not have too long left in him - so it makes sense fo Rangers to sign him now in order to get him settled in Scotland."
