It has been a decent season for Rotherham United in the Championship so far.

Following their promotion from League One last campaign, many expected the Millers to continue the trend which has seen them relegated in each of their last three seasons in the second tier.

However, they have defied the odds to remain outside the bottom three for much of the season so far and currently sit 20th in the table, five points clear of the relegation zone.

That is despite the departure of manager Paul Warne to Derby County in September, with Matt Taylor managing to keep the Millers away from danger following his arrival from Exeter City in October.

Rotherham had a successful January transfer window with Sean Morrison, Leo Hjelde, Tariqe Fosu, Jordan Hugill, Conor Coventry, Domingos Quina and Bailey Wright arriving, although they will be disappointed to have lost Dan Barlaser to Middlesbrough.

Much of the Millers' summer transfer business will depend on which division they are in, but as things stand, here are the players who will be leaving the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Josh Vickers

Vickers played an important role in the Millers promotion season last year, making 25 appearances in all competitions.

The 27-year-old, who has previously spells with Arsenal and Swansea City without making an appearance, joined the club in November 2020 following his release by Lincoln City earlier that year and has largely been a back up to Viktor Johansson this campaign, although he has played two EFL Cup games.

However, he is currently out injured and has not been included in the matchday squad since December.

Robbie Hemfrey

Hemfrey is currently deputising as Johansson's back up during Vickers' absence.

The 20-year-old arrived at the club in September after his release by Stoke City, but is yet to make his debut.

Sean Morrison

Morrison joined the Millers last month after leaving Cardiff City, where he had spent almost nine years following his move to South Wales in August 2014.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Bluebirds, including captaining them to promotion to the Premier League in 2018.

However, he had an injury-disrupted end to his time at the Cardiff City Stadium and made the switch to South Yorkshire on a short-term basis to provide experience to help Taylor's men to survival.

Richard Wood

Wood is the club's longest-serving player having arrived from Charlton Athletic in June 2014.

The 37-year-old is the Millers' captain and has led them to three promotions from League One during his time at the New York Stadium, while he acted as caretaker manager alongside fellow defender Lee Peltier for one game earlier this season following Warne's departure.

He has remained a regular in the second tier this campaign, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 23 games in all competitions and Taylor has already made it clear he would like Wood to extend his stay beyond the summer.

Wes Harding

Harding joined the Millers from Birmingham City in August 2020 and has been a virtual ever-present since his arrival.

He has scored one goal and registered two assists in 29 appearances in all competitions this season and given his importance to the side, he could be another that Taylor attempts to keep.

Lee Peltier

Peltier made the move to South Yorkshire in July following his departure from Middlesbrough.

The 36-year-old's experience has been important to the Millers in their survival battle and he has featured 22 times in all competitions, as well as filling in as caretaker alongside Wood earlier in the campaign.

Ben Wiles

Wiles will surely be one player that the Millers will be desperate to retain.

The 23-year-old came through the club's academy and has established himself as a first-team regular, including making 24 appearances this season, scoring two goals.

He admitted he was disappointed when the club blocked a potential move to Burnley in the summer and it would not be a surprise to see further interest in his services as his contract runs down.

Shane Ferguson

Ferguson joined the Millers from Millwall last summer and played an important role in their promotion from the third tier.

The 31-year-old has scored two goals in 19 appearances in all competitions this season, with the latest of those goals coming in the 1-1 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road last time out.

Chiedozie Ogbene

It looks incredibly unlikely that the Millers will be able to keep hold of Ogbene beyond the summer.

The 25-year-old arrived at the club from Brentford in August 2019 and has scored six goals and registered two assists this campaign.

However, he was the subject of much transfer speculation in January, reportedly attracting interest from the likes of Middlesbrough, Millwall, Swansea City and Club Brugge and he was supposedly keen on a move away from the New York Stadium.

In addition to those whose contracts expire in the summer, Coventry, Fosu, Hjelde, Wright, Quina and Grant Hall will all be departing following the conclusion of their loan deals.
