It’s been an incredibly slow start to the summer for Leeds United, with Marcelo Bielsa not nearly as active as he would’ve liked in the transfer window.

The 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship season is fast approaching, with Leeds needing to get some serious business done between now and the end of July.

Leeds entertain Stoke City at Elland Road in their opening fixture of the season, which presents Bielsa’s side with a huge task, but will also give them an indication of where they are in terms of competing with a promotion favourite.

So far, Leeds’ squad doesn’t look much different to last season’s, with Lewis Baker the only new face through the door this summer.

Of course though, that’s something Bielsa will be looking to address before Stoke visit Elland Road.

Here at FLW, we take a look at Leeds’ current squad, selecting the starting XI Bielsa could select from the players he has available to him…

Peacock-Farrell finished last season strongly, and although another goalkeeper will come in before Stoke, he’s in contention to take the gloves.

Jansson is yet to return to pre-season training following his World Cup exit.

When he’s back, he will be central to Bielsa’s plans.

Bielsa has a habit of transforming central midfielders into centre-backs, with Forshaw one of the obvious candidates at Elland Road.

Height is an issue, but Forshaw has quality on the ball between two towering defenders.

Currently, Cooper is Leeds’ best option at centre-back alongside Jansson.

You’d expect another defender to be signed before Stoke, but right now, you can see Cooper starting.

Ayling could become part of the back-three, but in a right wing-back role, he has a little more freedom.

With Forshaw in a deeper role, Vieira has the chance to make this position his own.

Alioski has played as a wing-back for Macedonia and this could be a position Bielsa looks to use him in.

He could also play further up the field.

Baker could play in Vieira’s deeper role, but earlier in his career, he impressed further forward.

He could be Bielsa’s No.10.

Saiz could feature in an attacking midfield role, but he could also be used right at the top of the pitch.

With Leeds short on attacking options at the minute, he could be used in a forward role.

At the minute, Roofe is Leeds’ best option to lead the line.

14 goals last season was a decent return, and in this role, the 25-year-old will be confident of a similar return.

Like Saiz and Baker, Hernandez is a contender for the No.10 role, but with options going forward limited, he features right at the top of the pitch.

This type of role would free the 33-year-old of any defensive responsibilities.
