The League One play-off final look destined for extra-time until Charlton Athletic captain Patrick Bauer scored a dramatic 94th-minute winner, sending one half of Wembley into chaos.

It was an incredible moment for the Charlton fans and the perfect end to what has been a difficult season for the club at times.

Bauer will feel that scoring the winner in the play-off final would be the perfect way to end his Charlton career, after four seasons at The Valley.

The defender is out of contract at the end of the season and has reportedly attracted interest from a host of Championship clubs, including Hull City, Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Queens Park Rangers.

Bauer was one of the standout performers for Charlton in League One last season, so it's not a surprise to hear talk of interest in him from rival clubs.

However, Charlton should do everything they can to persuade him to sign a new deal, as he will be absolutely key to their chances of surviving in the Championship next season.

Charlton will be kicking themselves if they end up losing a player of his quality on a free transfer and his teammates will all be desperate for him to remain at the club.

Bauer is a big influence both on the pitch and in the dressing room. He's a solid, no-nonsense defender and looks as though he has the potential to make the step up to the Championship.

Even though Lee Bowyer's future at The Valley is still uncertain, he will have already started making plans for next season.

The Charlton boss will need to build a team that can survive in the second tier and Bauer is the perfect player for him to build a solid defence around.

It's currently unclear whether Bauer would actually want to leave Charlton. He has already established himself as one of the standout players for the Addicks and he may feel that his story at the club is not finished yet.

Charlton have reportedly offered him a new deal and the club should do everything they can to persuade him to sign it, although he may not want to until Bowyer's future is more clear.

It will be interesting to see whether Bauer decides to remain at Charlton and if he does, it will be a major boost for the team ahead of their return to the Championship.
