Things are not looking good for Garry Monk at Middlesbrough, with the 38-year-old feeling the pressure after a difficult start to life at the Riverside Stadium.

Boro currently sit ninth in the Sky Bet Championship table, six points adrift of the top-six, having lost three of their last four fixtures, which has piled the pressure on Monk, who spent millions and millions strengthening his squad in the summer.

Monk took to Twitter yesterday, admitting that there were no excuses for Middlesbrough’s poor run, which sparked plenty of reaction from the club’s supporters, calling for a change in the dugout.

However, an article in the Gazette has offered Monk hope that Boro owner, Steve Gibson, will hand him time, reviewing the situation the club’s five previous managers found themselves in at the Riverside.

Stretching back to 2001, Gibson’s patience has been tested by Steve McClaren, Gareth Southgate, Gordon Strachan, Tony Mowbray and Aitor Karanka, all of whom were eventually given the time to get things right at the Riverside Stadium.

Monk will be looking to turn things around on Saturday and lift some of the mounting pressure coming from the club’s supporters, when Boro welcome Ipswich Town to the Riverside.

The Verdict

History tells us that Monk will be given time to turn things around, as Gibson has often proved to be as patient as they come in English game.

Of course, Monk’s situation is slightly different, as he has spent a huge amount of money during his short time at the Riverside Stadium, but you would still expect him to be given time by Gibson.

Monk’s side sit just six points adrift of the top-six, which could quite easily be reversed between now and Christmas.
