Arsenal missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool on Monday evening as they were beaten 1-0 by newly-promoted Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Blades took the lead after 30 minutes through Lys Mousett, and Chris Wilder's side held on to take a vital three points to move them up to ninth in the Premier League table.

Arsenal will be bitterly disappointed not to come away with anything to show for their efforts, especially after they spurned a number of good opportunities to find the back of the net on the night.

Nicolas Pepe wasted the best chance of the game for the Gunners as he fired wide from six yards after being unmarked in the Sheffield United penalty area.

It's not been the best of spells for Arsenal's summer signing, and he'll be hoping that he can improve on recent performances as soon as possible.

Wigan Athletic's Gary Roberts clearly wasn't impressed with Pepe's recent showing, and took to Twitter to claim that the £72m man could end up at Forest Green Rovers in January if he continues to struggle with Unai Emery's side.

Roberts is yet to feature for Wigan this season, as Paul Cook's side sit 18th in the Championship table, and will be keen to build on a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

The Latics take on Derby County on Wednesday evening, as they look to keep themselves clear of the relegation zone in the second tier this season.

The Verdict:

He's clearly not a fan of Pepe is he!

I'll admit that I had my doubts as to whether he would be able to adjust to the demands of Premier League football, and I seem to be proven right at this moment in time.

He needs to find some consistency in his performances as soon as possible, otherwise I struggle to see Arsenal finishing inside the top five this season.

I'm not sure Pepe will end at Forest Green though, as that is quite the step down!
