Arsenal have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker and have emerged as the favourites to do so, according to Sky Sports.
The 22-year old English international took part in Cardiff’s Premier League campaign this past season and despite being such an integral member of the team, he was unable to lead his team to survival.
He played all 38 league games and was able to score five goals with the majority of which coming near the tail end of the season.
It was thought that Liverpool were in pole position to sign the defender, who has one cap for England. However, it is now thought that Arsenal are favourites to sign him.
It is believed that the London side have bid around £8 million for the defender which beats Liverpool’s bid by £2 million and sources around Cardiff are saying that the club are pondering over the potential of a sale to the Gunners.
It is known that Caulker’s former club Tottenham Hotspurs are also interested in his signature, as are Manchester United and Southampton.
But despite this, Arsenal have leapfrogged their opposition and seem likely to sign the 22-year old Englishman.
