Arsenal are set to make a summer bid for highly-rated Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper has been in excellent form for the Royals this season, and Arsenal have targeted the England Under-21 International as an ideal replacement for Lukas Fabianski, who is rumoured to be leaving the Emirates.
McCarthy was part of the Reading squad that were relegated from the Premier League last year, and he made a string of impressive displays which caught the attention of an array of top-flight clubs.
A deal for the Reading academy graduate is more likely to happen if the Royals don’t achieve promotion to the Premier League.
The 24-year-old is also attracting interest from Newcastle United where he could serve as competition for current number one Tim Krul.
