Reading are set to confirm the signing of Arsenal goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez on loan for the rest of the season according to the Daily Mail.

It is claimed that the Gunners want Martinez to head out on loan this season, in the hope that he can take Petr Cech’s sport as number two at the Emirates Stadium next season.

The move was all but confirmed late last night, when Martinez’s management posted a picture on their social media channel.

The Argentinian will be a player that is remembered by Reading, for all the wrong reasons as he played his part in Arsenal’s 7-5 win over Reading in the Capital One Cup in 2012.

But having gained experience out on loan at the likes of Rotherham and Getafe in recent seasons which will be pleasing to see.

At the age of 26, he needs to be playing regularly to further his career, and a loan move to the Royals is the perfect move for the shot-stopper.

Jose Gomes is in need of a goalkeeper that will suit his possession-based style of play, and Martinez certainly fits that criteria, as well as being an excellent all-round goalkeeper.

He will surely challenge Anssi Jaakola for a starting spot in the Reading squad and will play a crucial role in taking Reading out of the relegation scrap that they find themselves in this season.

The Royals also recently announced the signing of Nelson Oliveira on loan until the end of the season on Tuesday evening, as they look to strengthen ahead of what is likely to be a challenging run of games.

The Verdict:

"It’s another smart bit of business by Jose Gomes.

"Reading need a goalkeeper that has better distribution, and Martinez certainly has that in his list of attributes.

"On a loan deal, this is the best move for both parties, as Martinez needs game time, and the Royals are in desperate need of a better-quality goalkeeper."
