Sky Bet Championship promotion favourites Brighton & Hove Albion are closing in on a deal to sign Arsenal's Chuba Akpom on loan until the end of the season, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 21-year-old striker who has spent the past two seasons on loan in the Championship with Hull City and Nottingham Forest is set for a loan move once again, this time to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Akpom has been left frustrated due to a lack of opportunities as he has only made a single appearance for Arsenal this season, in the EFL Cup victory over Nottingham Forest.

Akpom who has fallen down the pecking order behind a plethora of strikers will be allowed to leave the North London club in this window on loan.

Aston Villa were initially interested in the 21-year-old striker, however, Brighton & Hove Albion have now stolen the lead as the favourites to sign the Arsenal striker.

Chris Hughton will be hoping that Chuba Akpom can have a large role to play in the second half of the season, potentially firing Brighton to promotion.
