Martinez expects Wolves to get promotion

Martinez believes that he has joined a club that has only one target in mind and that is to gain promotion to English top flight for the first time since they were relegated back in 2012.

Martinez, 22, made his debut for Wolves on Tuesday night during the 2-1 win over Newport County in the League Cup at Molineux.

The Argentina under-20 international told the Express and Star: “For everyone in this club there is only one target, to get promoted.”

He said: “There are three spots to get into the Premier League and one of them is for us. I know Kenny Jackett is thinking the same thing and we are going in a good direction.

“I’ve known Wolves for many years, I’ve been in England for five or six years so I know the history of this club, there is a great manager, great goalkeeping coach, amazing facility and really nice fans.”

The on-loan Arsenal keeper also revealed that he is happy that he has joined fellow Gunners team-mate Benik Afobe at Wolves who he describes as “one of my best friends in the UK.”

Martinez joined Arsenal back in 2010 from Independiente and has played eight times for the Gunners, as well as having three previous loan spells, two of which have been in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United respectively.

Martinez will provide excellent competition for current Wolves stopper Carl Ikeme, and will no doubt help Kenny Jackett's side throughout the season, as they aim for promotion to the top-flight.

Wolves went incredibly close to attaining a play-off spot in the Championship last year, so will be keen to secure at least a top six spot in the 2015/16 campaign.
