According to Chronicle Live, Arsenal are lining up a transfer move for 23-year-old goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who is currently on loan at Swansea City from Premier League side Newcastle United.
The young stopper has enjoyed a productive campaign this season in the Sky Bet Championship, as he continues to enhance his reputation as one of the brightest young British goalkeepers.
A FIFA World Cup winner at u-20 level with England, Woodman has worked his way into a Swansea side that is challenging for the play-off places in the Championship under Steve Cooper.
However, regardless of their success in doing that this season, the goalkeeper could well be a Premier League player next year if Arsenal get their way.
Should the season be resumed?
The Gunners have reportedly been scouting the player this season and have watched him on more than one occasion so there has been plenty of groundwork done already in terms of this deal.
Woodman is a good young goalkeeper and has been crucial in the Swans’ quest to get back into the Premier League next season.
Indeed, he’s evidently caught the eye of one of the biggest clubs in the country and it might be hard to turn that down if the Gunners do make a firm offer.
With Bernd Leno impressing at the Emirates, though, he’s certainly not guaranteed a first-team spot, but you can be confident that he’ll relish such a challenge.
