Arsenal have joined West Brom in the race to sign Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida according to a report from Turkish media outlet Askam.

The Croatian international is contracted until 2022, but has been linked with a summer departure on numerous occasions this season.

The report claims that Vida is the highest earner with Besiktas, and the club are looking to reduce the wage bill heading into next year's league campaign.

He has made 32 appearances in total for the Turkish giants, as they sit fifth in the Super Lig table after a frustrating campaign to date so far.

A move to West Brom could be a tempting proposition for Vida, with the defender likely to be given first-team assurances by Slaven Bilic if he arrived at The Hawthorns.

But with Arsenal now registering their interest in striking a deal with Vida, the Baggies will know that they face a real battle to strike a deal with the 31-year-old.

Slaven Bilic's side are currently sat second in the Championship table, and are six points clear of third-placed Fulham, as they look to make a timely return to the Premier League this term.

The Verdict:

West Brom face a real battle to strike a deal with Vida here.

The Baggies would have been confident that they could strike an agreement with Besiktas for the defender, but with Arsenal now interested, you would imagine that a move to the Emirates Stadium would be more tempting for the Croatian international.

But Slaven Bilic's side are more likely to be able to offer him regular game time, which could tilt any potential deal in their favour heading into the summer.

It'll all depend on whether West Brom win promotion into the Premier League though, as I can't see him being willing to step down to the Championship anytime soon.
