Arsenal are monitoring the progress of Swansea City's on-loan goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, a report from football.London has claimed.

Woodman is currently in his second consecutive season-long loan spell at The Liberty Stadium, having originally joined from Newcastle during the 2019 summer transfer window,

In total, Woodman has made 68 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh club, helping them to second in the current Championship table, and it now seems as though his own performances are earning him a fair deal of attention.

According to this latest report, Arsenal are monitoring the progress of Woodman, and have been since the end of his first season at Swansea, with a view to a potential move for the 23-year-old.

It is thought that Mikel Arteta's side are keen to add another goalkeeper to their ranks during the current transfer window, following some unconvincing performances from Runar Alex Runarsson, who was brought in as back-up for Bernd Leno during the summer transfer window.

However, it is said to be unclear whether or not they will look to bring Woodman to the Emirates Stadium during the current transfer window.

As things stand, there are still two-and-a-half years remaining on Woodman's contract with parent club Newcastle, with the goalkeeper having signed a new deal with the Magpies last summer.

The Verdict

This could be a decent signing for Arsenal.

Woodman has been impressive for Swansea in the past season-and-a-half, and could well be ready for the step up to the Premier League after that.

However, you do have to wonder slightly just how much this move would appeal to him, given he would likely be second choice to Leno at Arsenal, and at 23-years-old, Woodman is likely to want as much regular first-team football as possible.

It would of course be a big blow for Swansea were he to leave this month, meaning the recent acquisition of goalkeeper Ben Hamer from Huddersfield could prove an important one for them.
