Premier League giants Arsenal have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit for Leeds United youngster Sam Byram, with reports in the Daily Express suggesting that the player has rejected a new contract with the Whites.

Sam Byram is attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs

22-year-old Byram, whose contract expires at the end of the season, wishes to leave Leeds United, with owner Massimo Cellino saying that the youngster believes he is to big for the club.

The right-sided player, regarded as one of the hottest properties outside of the top-flight, has been used as a forward player this season, and was the subject of interest from Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle United in the summer, but opted to stay at Elland Road amid the Premier League interest.

Byram has already appeared over 100 times for Leeds in his short career, including nine times already this season, but it is looking increasingly likely that this season will be his last at Elland Road.

The controversial owner told Sky Sports News HQ: 'Sam Byram is the only one that maybe thinks Leeds is too small for him.

'He maybe thinks he deserves a bigger team and a bigger club, and maybe he's right. He didn't sign the new contract we offered him and he won't sign it anymore.

'He has been offered a new deal a few times, he didn't want to sign and I am deeply offended.'

Uwe Rosler's side have started the season in ordinary fashion, and currently sit tenth after two wins and five draws in their opening eight league games.
