Eddie Nketiah will not be sent on loan again this season as manager Mikel Arteta has decided to keep him for the Arsenal first-team, as per the Telegraph.

This comes as a blow to Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday who were chasing the young attacker following his unsuccessful loan spell at Leeds in the first-half of the campaign.

The Robins are now struggling once more in the striker department and will hope to bring someone in by the end of January to help them compete for a place in the Premier League come the end of the season.

Nketiah spent time at Leeds earlier in the campaign but Marcelo Bielsa failed to give him the game time required, and so he was recalled by Arsenal.

It now looks as though he's set to stay at the Premier League side in a turn of events that will have disappointed supporters of Bristol City.

The Verdict

That is really surprising news and somewhat unexpected news and most Championship supporters expected to see the player back in the division and playing for another side.

For the Robins, it is a huge blow and it means that Lee Johnson and his staff have to turn their attentions elsewhere but make sure that the player they bring in is up to the required level.

Bristol City are in desperate need of a striker, and with Rodri being released, the desperation steps up a notch. They have a big opportunity of reaching the top six this year, and you have to feel that they can only do that if they strengthen their attacking options.
