Arsenal have completed the signing of Sunderland starlet Sam Greenwood, according to reliable football journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Prolific young striker Greenwood looks set to be unveiled by Arsenal imminently.

Arsenal have beaten the likes of Bundesliga side Stuttgart and Premier League duo Manchester United and Liverpool to the signing of the 16-year-old, who netted six goals and contributed with six assists for Sunderland's under-18 team last year.

The England under-16 international is very highly rated by Sunderland but with his contract running out, he is joining Arsenal instead.

Sunderland are owed compensation as they have helped Greenwood's progression - a fee which will be decided by a tribunal if the two clubs cannot agree it beforehand.

Greenwood is set to sign terms on a scholarship with Arsenal and his deal will be made permanent in January upon his 17th birthday.

Arsenal look to have won the race for the talented teenager to bolster their youth options.

The Verdict

Sunderland will be disappointed to lose this promising young talent.

They will only be owed a small compensation fee, which will be hardly any consolation if he becomes a top striker.

But they have to accept that Arsenal are a massive draw and Greenwood's career could benefit in the long run.
